About ACT

The mission of ACT is to develop and implement a unified approach to tourism programs to benefit the local economy by increasing visitation to Amador County. This approach shall take into consideration the interests and needs of current and potential visitors, local tourism related businesses, other tourism promotion agencies, and local government, working in harmony with the environment and the values of the community.

ACT is committed to increasing the value of tourism. Amador County will achieve such value by working in unison. We will attract more visitors to our region by branding the County; highlighting our scenic qualities, sharing our rich history, and defining our attractions. We must ensure the protection and preservation of the aesthetic, historical and cultural foundations that make Amador County unique.

Why should I join ACT?

The benefits of ACT membership include participation in numerous cooperative and leveraged marketing efforts designed to put Amador on the "Map" as a travel destination, and include the following:

  • Visitor Center Open SEVEN Days a Week
  • NEW Amador County "Branding" Campaign (designed to attract more visitors to Amador)
  • Cooperative Advertising in Print Media (Newspapers, Sunset, VIA Magazine, etc.)
  • Link to NEW portal web site
  • Listing in NEW Amador County Visitors Guide
  • Public Relations Campaign (primarily targeting markets in Northern California)
  • Promotional Literature Distribution at Amador Visitor Center & Neighboring Visitor Centers
  • Trade Show Participation
  • Special Event Participation
  • Signage Enhancement

Doesn’t the Chamber of Commerce already promote tourism?

The Chamber of Commerce does an outstanding job of promoting tourism with its limited resources, both time and money. The Chamber’s focus has been more local in nature due to these limited resources. The formation of ACT does not reflect dissatisfaction with what the Chamber has been doing to promote tourism in Amador, we simply believe that the time has come to establish an Amador County Visitors Bureau, with the sole focus of promoting tourism in Amador.

ACT believes a separate Visitors Bureau is in an excellent position to facilitate, support and coordinate all of the various tourism promotion efforts currently in place throughout the County, further enhancing Amador’s tourism promotion efforts and eliminating the duplication of efforts currently occurring throughout the County. Separate Visitors Bureaus are now quite common throughout the State. Our neighboring counties, Calaveras and Tuolumne, have established separate Visitors Bureaus over the past 10 years or so.

Why should I belong to ACT and the Chamber?

ACT is dedicated to the promotion of tourism outside of the County, while the Chamber’s focus is more locally oriented. ACT will provide a Visitor Center that is open seven days a week to serve our visitors. Membership in ACT will ensure that your business receives exposure on many levels throughout the State of California and beyond.

The Chamber provides valuable information and resources to local businesses, and an opportunity to network and thereby increase the viability of their business. The Chamber also functions as a lobbyist for local businesses, addressing their needs in the political arena and beyond. An example would be the Chamber’s immediate response to the ADA issues that have challenged many local businesses recently. ACT believes that Chamber membership is important to any local business.
