Sutter Creek International Film Festival

Sutter Creek International Film Festival

Friday - Sunday
September 28th – October 1st 2017
9:00am-11:00pm

The Sutter Creek International Film Festival returns for 2017, expanded by a day from last year. We have films from Australia, India, Iran, Italy, and Switzerland among others. Shorts, full length features, animated, and documentaries. We have discussion panels with directors and actors, an awards dinner, breakfasts with filmmakers, mixers, and much more.

The SUTTER CREEK INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL (SCIFF) is located 55 minutes east of Sacramento, CA and 2 hours east of San Francisco, and 1 hour and 40 minutes from the world famous, beautiful Lake Tahoe. But once in Sutter Creek, you’ll never have to leave for excitement and adventure! Sutter Creek is surrounded by beautiful vineyards, caves and gold mines, some more than a mile underground to explore. As a premiere 4-day annual event, the SCIFF showcases cutting edge, as well as contemporary film screenings at the historic SUTTER CREEK THEATRE. You’ll love the city’s old west, historical feel and look, with a variety of unexpected venues giving you memories, you’ll be sharing for years and years to come.

SCIFF is proud to embrace the reasons Film Festivals were invented, in its meticulous programming guidelines. From cutting edge documentaries to tried-and-true indie films, SCIFF celebrates film on the ‘big screen’ by offering something for everyone. Experience HOLLYWOOD-STYLE EVENTS that pair excellent local wines with your film experience, or the RED CARPET EVENTS, where we welcome celebrities from Hollywood, filmmakers, and world known figures.

Enjoy premieres of INDEPENDENT FILMS – films that you may not have a chance to see anywhere else. Filmmakers from all over the world attend the Festival and offer an intimate, but informative Q & A sessions after the screening of their films.

We at SUTTER CREEK INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL will entertain, educate and inspire film-goers and filmmakers, from around the world.

Sutter Creek International Film Festival – where indie film matters!

Tickets are available below. We have day passes and festival passes, as well as filmmaker packages. The films are programmed into blocks of approximately 2 hours each, so a feature film will occupy one block, a “shorts program” of short films will occupy another 2 hour block. The mixers, breakfasts, and Awards Dinner tickets are listed with the films chronologically as they appear in the program schedule.

Juni Fisher - Singer, Songwriter & Horsewoman
Juni Fisher's name is synonymous with the kind of songwriting that, according to one promoter "Plumbs the depth of your soul…".
Juni Fisher gets to the heart of the horse-human bond and takes listeners on a musical journey celebrating stock horses and the people who ride them. Her knowledge of and sensitivity to the horse come through in her lyrics, and anyone who knows horses can tell they were written from personal experience.  Her first Western release,"Tumbleweed Letters" (1999) reached Monterey Cowboy Poetry and Music Festival director Gary Brown in late 2003. He shared Juni's music with other promoters and soon Juni would shift to music full time as her profession. Fisher now performs at the major festivals, and concert venues of all sizes across the US, and spends saddle time on her cutting horse, keeping her tuned up for competition.

Photowalk in Sutter Creek

Saturday, October 7, 2017
3-5:30 pm.

Amador County’s Photographer Larry Angier will lead a 10th Anniversary International Photowalk in Sutter Creek.

What is the Photowalk? It’s a social photography event where photographers get together to walk around, shoot photos, and have fun with other photographers. After the walk, participants have the opportunity to submit their best photo into a contest.

We will gather at Sutter Creek's new Miners Bend Park on Main Street where there should be good parking. Then we will wander some of the back streets of Sutter Creek for a couple of hours. There's no set schedule and folks are free to wander off on their own and follow their instincts. Sutter Creek, California, is an historic city in California's Gold Country known for its short but quaint Main Street and well-maintained historic homes and businesses. The walking should be fairly easy for most.

To sign up for this event go to: http://worldwidephotowalk.com/locations and search for Sutter Creek.

Michael Solstrom & Late for the Train on stage

Michael Solstrom & Late for the Train on stage

Friday, Oct 13, 2017
8 pm
$14 adv / $16 day of show

Michael Solström's emotive voice speaks to the heart. He sings of love, life, and a true poetry of the heart. With his freshman release of "Strangers like Us" Solström created a unique soundscape blending 60's rock-folk with modern heartfelt soul and captivating lyrics. A lot is in store for this blooming artist. Solström golden tones evoke sounds of eras past and breathe life into the modern lyric form. The dynamic vocals and intimate guitar work of Michael Sallstrom (aka soul-strum) will surely strum the strings of your soul.

Late for the Train is the folk duo of David Pascoe and Laura Benson, two songwriters and multi-instrumentalists sharing traditional and original music. The pair will carry you on a journey through joyful fiddle tunes and bluegrass riffs to melancholic folk songs, true to the tradition of narrative songwriting and storytelling.

Founded in 2010, the “Clark’s Corner Cycling Challenge,” (CCCC) is an annual cycling event/group ride held annually, starting in beautiful Ione, CA, and circling through Amador County.

The Clark's Corner Cycling Challenge was designed as a way to give to charitable causes, promote business in the City of Ione and County of Amador, encourage community wellness, and share the amazing cycling we have around Ione.

Quote from Chris Horner: “I love riding in the ‘Clark’s Corner Cycling Challenge,’ and am happy to be back with the cyclists in Northern California. After the big win a few weeks ago at the ‘Tour of Spain,’ I was excited to be returning for a fun ride in Amador County, because Northern California has a very loyal and enthusiastic cycling community. It was great! I’m really glad I could make it” - October 2013

Knight Foundry Open House

Knight Foundry Open House

Monthly, 2nd Saturday
Tours Start at 10am, 12pm, and 2pm

The Knight Foundry, set in the heart of Sutter Creek, is America’s last water-powered foundry and machine shop. Established in 1873 by Samuel Knight, this extraordinary facility includes the unique historic equipment and machinery, still in place in its original context, just as it was during its gold rush-era heyday.

Knight Foundry never significantly modernized; the original machinery is still powered by patented Knight Water Motors via a system of line shafts and belt drives. In addition to a full complement of tools and machinery, no other site preserves an unbroken line of nearly extinct foundry skills down to the present. These skills associated with the foundry craft are another unique element of the site’s historic fabric.Samuel N. Knight (1838-1913) and the other skilled artisans who worked there were a major, albeit unsung, source of technological invention, innovation and engineering for early California industry.

Knight Foundry is nationally recognized as a National Historic Mechanical Engineering Landmark and a California Registered Historical Landmark. The Foundry is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has been named by the National Trust for Historic Preservation as one of America’s eleven most endangered historic places.

TOUR FEES: Adults 18 and over, $10, students 5-17, $5, children under 5, free.

Drew Harrison: In The Spirit of Lennon

Drew Harrison: In The Spirit of Lennon

Saturday, Oct 14, 2017
8 pm
$19 adv / $21 day of show

Drew Harrison, the renowned “Lennon” vocalist and Northern California’s premiere Beatles tribute band, The Sun Kings, performs a very special show celebrating the life and music of John Lennon.

“In the Spirit of Lennon” is Drew’s tribute to John Lennon, and interpretation of his music. He goes beyond just sounding like him, but captures the intensity that Lennon brought to the Beatles music as well as his own. This intimate and emotional performance has been seen and heard nationwide, in South America and in Europe. Drew was invited to perform In the Spirit of Lennon at the Latin American Beatles Fest in Buenos Aires and in Louisville, KY where he performed at Abbey Road on the River. This year Drew has been invited to the coveted International Beatles Week in Liverpool, where he will perform his tribute to Lennon, as well as with The Sun Kings.

A singer-songwriter in his own right, Drew Harrison has been in several original groups over the years, and has released a solo acoustic CD, Go It Alone. Go It Alone is a result of an intense period, filled with rawness and emotion. It’s just his voice and acoustic guitar, baring his soul lyrically and vocally. He currently performs solo in the Bay Area as well as Europe and South America where he finds that music exists for music’s sake, which seems to fit entirely with his philosophy.

Hike to Granite and Hidden Lakes

Hike to Granite and Hidden Lakes

Sunday October 15, 2017
8:00am

Foothill Conservancy, CalWild and Sierra Forest Legacy invite members of the public to join us in hiking to the Granite and Hidden Lakes.

This area is a potential addition to the Mokelumne Wilderness. The Forest Service is preparing to revise the Eldorado National Forest plan, which will determine future management and protection of this area.

This hike is adjacent to beautiful Silver Lake and scenic Highway 88 in Amador County and is an easy to moderate six-mile roundtrip hike starting at 7,300 feet elevation. We will hike on a well-maintained trail for three miles, past Granite Lake to Hidden Lake at 7,800 feet elevation (a total elevation gain of 500 feet). There will be great views of Silver Lake and Thunder Mountain, plus some fall color.

Advanced registration is required for the hike. After you register, the Conservancy will send you detailed instructions to the trailhead. Hikers should bring their own water, food, and hiking gear.

For more information and to register, contact Amanda Nelson, Foothill Conservancy, at Amanda@foothillconservancy.org or call 209-223-3508 weekdays.

Kennedy Mine Tours

Kennedy Mine Tours

Every Saturday, Sunday and Holiday
March thru October
10am-3pm

During the Kennedy Gold Mine surface tour, visitors see the mine office building where gold flakes were melted into large bricks to ship by Wells Fargo stage to San Francisco. This is also where ore samples were processed to see if a particular underground area was worthy of further investigation. See the stamp and gold recovery mill, tailing wheels, a steam boiler and the huge steel head frame whose pulleys guided the miners into the bowels of the earth. You will also see the building [now a museum] where the men changed into their mining garb before dropping nearly a mile underground to work. View a historic video of the men working circa 1914, and much more. Visit the Kennedy Gold Mine and gain new insight into the complications and hardships of the miner's way of life.

FREE Admission. Guided tours are: $10.00 for ages 13 to adult, $6.00 for youngsters 6 through 12, and free to those under 6.

Group Guided tours are available, by reservation, all year. Guided Tours are recommended for an interesting, in-depth, and educational tour of the grounds [about 1.5 hours]. You may, if you wish, purchase a self-guided tour book in our gift shop and wander on your own. Some prefer to bring a picnic lunch and just soak in the ambiance of this historic spot.

Teachers and Educators, we have a special group guided tour designed for your students. http://kennedygoldmine.com/schooltours.html
